It’s a new year and to ring in the changes there are some big happenings in the Powerball Lottery. The lottery has gone through many changes since its launch, including a name change and changes to the way the lottery is played.
The changes came into force on January 4th 2009 and it’s an exciting time for the Powerball Lottery, the starting jackpot on the lottery is now increased from $15 million to $20 million, making it the worlds largest guaranteed jackpot for a lottery style game. The average Powerball jackpot will also increase from an estimated $85 million to $141 million as lottery organisers increase the percentage of prize funds dedicated to the jackpot prize.
Ti increase the jackpot size, four white balls are to be added to the game, increasing the total of white balls to 59, three red Powerballs are also to be removed from the game, making a total of 39. These changes will alter the odds of winning the jackpot from one in 145 million to one in almost 200 million.
The final change to the lottery is an extra state. Florida joined the multistate lotto from 4th January and to commemorate the change the draws will now be held in the state.
The one thing that hasn’t changed is the prize, Powerball lottery tickets will still cost $1 each.
